Ontario Electricity Prices Change November 1 — What Ottawa Homeowners Should Know
Good day, everyone — Muhamed Awada with eXp Realty, Ottawa.
Ontario electricity prices change November 1 — and rates are actually going down, not up.
Time-of-use: off-peak 9.1 cents, mid-peak 14.6 cents, on-peak 18.9 cents per kWh.
Winter hours: weekday on-peak 7-11 a.m. and 5-7 p.m.
Tiered: first 1,000 kWh/month at 11.2 cents, above that 13.2 cents.
The catch: the Ontario Electricity Rebate drops from 23.5% to 15.7%. For a typical 700 kWh home, that's about $23 off the bill, down from $36 — so your total bill may not drop as much as the rates suggest.
If you're buying or selling, ask about heating, insulation, and the electricity plan — not just the price. A home that heats efficiently, or where you can shift laundry to off-peak, costs noticeably less to run.
Check which plan fits how you actually live, and use the Ontario Energy Board's bill calculator before you switch.
